The author of column entitled “Iran’s War and the ‘Shanghai Spirit’… What Can the [Persian] Gulf States Draw?” in a magazine called Majala in Arabic claims war on Iran was not on agenda of recent SCO in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek.

The author writes about Bishkek and the logic of “dispute management” in the SCO, and ultimately concludes that the Iran War was absent from the agenda of the SCO Summits. The paragraph in this article that claims that the Iran War was not even raised at the preliminary meeting of foreign ministers in Kyrgyzstan and that the Iranian delegation at the SCO Media and Think Tanks Summit in Bishkek refused to address the war is exactly where the analysis is detached from reality; because official documents, the text of the speeches, and the final statements show exactly the opposite.

A claim that does not match the realities
The meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the SCO on July 24, 2026 in Cholpon-Ata (the same preparatory meeting mentioned in the article) not only addressed the war, but its final statement explicitly reaffirmed the position contained in the “Tianjin Declaration” condemning military attacks on Iranian soil and considered these actions “a gross violation of the principles and norms of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.” In the same statement, the foreign ministers expressed their condolences for the martyrdom of the Leader of the Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and sympathized with the people and government of Iran and the families of the victims; an issue that the media had already reported as the focus of the statement and condemnation of the US aggression against Iran.
